
Nigel & Carolyne Benn
Boxing World Champion, Nigel Benn, often known as “The Dark Destroyer” turned a professional in 1987 after a distinguished amateur career of 41 wins and 1 loss.
For the next 9 years, until his retirement from boxing in 1996, Nigel became one of the most well known boxers in the world. During that time Nigel had 48 fights, with 42 wins of which 35 were knockouts, 5 losses and 1 draw.
The highlights to Nigel career was when he beat DougDeWitt in Atlantic City in 1990 to become the WBO Middleweight Champion of the World and again in 1992 when he beat Mauro Galvano to become the WBC Super Middleweight Champion of the World.
As well as the huge achievement of two world titles, Nigel is also remembered for the famous boxing duals he had with Chris Eubank in the early 1990’s.
After Nigel’s retirement in 1996 he appeared in the first series of “I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here” and then retired to live on the Spanish Island of Mallorca with his family. He is now in a pastoral role in a local church on the Island.
Nigel and his wife Carolyne take an evening where they are interviewed by illusionist/evangelist Steve Legg. Nigel & Carolyne tell their story of fame intermingled with Nigel’s deep dissatisfaction caused by his problems with Drugs and broken relationships; and how Carolyne managed to support Nigel through those turbulent years.
